Nikolaus schenkte ihnen Gold, in dem er heimlich drei goldene Kugeln durch das Fenster ihres Schlafgemachs warf.\u00a0 Im St. Annen-Museum von L\u00fcbeck findet man auf einer Tafel (Retabel eines Altars um 1500) diese sch\u00f6ne Szene festgehalten. Der Heilige steht im vollen Bischofsornat neben dem Fenster eines Geb\u00e4udes, kurz davor, die letzte Kugel zu werfen.
